To really understand karate, you have to have a "wide vision", which means: learning history, geography, culture, language, politics, anatomy, medicine, philosophy, psychology, etc.
The chart above is hundreds of hours of reading, listening, googling... some sources better then others. It is not scholarly, nor perfect. A large change in my understanding was when I realized that Japan and USA (Frost) Koei Kan differed. Sensei Frost innovated in many ways, for use with Western mentality. There is probably to much information here over all, but its all related to understanding karate and its history. Digest in small amounts and consume regularly :)

Created by Fred Speece, started in 2008, in visio.
Koei Kan USA weapons history is more shrouded in mystery with the passing of Sensei Frost who taught and spread most of the weapons in the system. Weapons are an optional add on to our art, and Kobudo can be a life long study just by itself.

Do you know where Okinawa is on a globe? Do you know how it initially spread before Youtube?
Anyone can google map this information (https://www.google.com.my/maps/place/Okinawa,+Japan/@25.9483766,124.8843953,7z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x34f57062eeab5be7:0x35bb617286fdd1ef!8m2!3d26.1201911!4d127.7025012) ,
but I wanted to zoom in and highlight some aspects of Martial Arts, Karate, and Koei Kan history.
